William the Conqueror dies 1087

Having fallen off his horse and suffering abdominal injuries, William the Conqueror died at the Convent of St Gervais in Rouen, on the 9th of September 1087. He is succeeded by his third son William Rufus as William II of England. His eldest son Robert Curthose became Duke of Normandy.
