Panch Mahal. Fatehpur Sikri wind tower mughal architecture

This structure is variously known as the Panch Mahal, Wind Tower, and Five-Storied Pavilion. It connects the royal apartments with the public court and it may have been used as part of the Jharokha-Darsana where Akbar the Great would appear to the public assembled in the courtyard, and hear their grievances. However, it is not certain that this was its main function and there is some speculation that it might have been used as a pleasure palace, or that it was exclusively used by the women and children of the court. Behind the building is a private garden. It may well have also functioned as a windcatcher (badgir) to ventilate and cool the inside of the building.
